TRANSBAY BLOCK 2 - EAST FAMILY BUILDING AND WEST SENIOR BUILDING
San Francisco, CA
Transbay Block 2 in San Francisco's East Cut neighborhood is being developed into two distinct affordable housing projects: the East Family Building and the West Senior Building.
East Family Building: This 17-story structure, led by Mercy Housing California, will offer 184 affordable rental units for families earning between 40% and 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Forty of these units are designated for families who have experienced homelessness. The building will feature a childcare center, community spaces, and retail areas on the ground floor. Completion is anticipated by summer 2026.
West Senior Building: Developed by the Chinatown Community Development Center, this nine-story building will provide 151 affordable rental units for seniors earning between 15% and 50% of AMI. Thirty of these units are reserved for formerly homeless seniors. Amenities include private residential stoops, retail spaces, and a sixth-floor roof deck adjacent to a community room. The building is expected to be completed before the end of 2025.
A pedestrian mews will connect the two buildings, fostering intergenerational interactions and providing access to the future Transbay Block 3 Park. The combined project aims to add vibrancy to downtown San Francisco by introducing over 300 affordable homes for families and seniors.
Montez Group is currently involved in the construction of the project, supporting the concrete quality testing to ensure structural integrity and compliance with industry standards.
