VTA EASTRIDGE TO BART REGIONAL CONNECTOR PROJECT

The Eastridge to BART Regional Connector Project, formerly known as the Capitol Expressway Light Rail Project, extends light rail service from the existing Alum Rock Light Rail Station to the Eastridge Transit Center. This extension includes an elevated guideway primarily located in the center of Capitol Expressway, with an elevated light rail station at Story Road, accessible via a pedestrian overcrossing, and an at-grade station at the Eastridge Transit Center. Once completed, this project will allow VTA riders to board light rail at the Eastridge Transit Center and connect directly with BART at the Milpitas Station. The project has been delivered in phases. Phase 1A, completed in Fall 2012, focused on improving pedestrian access and safety. Enhancements included new sidewalks, street lighting, and a landscaped buffer. Phase 1B involved the reconstruction of the Eastridge Transit Center, completed in 2015, featuring new shelters, amenities, and support for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Phase 2, the light rail extension, represents the final phase of the larger Capitol Expressway Transit Improvement Project, which transforms the expressway into a multi-modal corridor offering BRT, light rail transit, and safe regional transit connections.

 

Montez Group provided inspection and materials testing services during this phase of the project, ensuring quality and compliance. Our inspectors oversaw daily operations to verified that all materials met project specifications. Montez Group tested concrete for compressive strength by casting and analyzing cylinders and evaluated aggregate samples to ensure they met required standards. Our team ensured all work was completed to the necessary quality and construction requirements.

Additionally, our inspectors performed compaction tests at various locations, such as manholes, storm drain systems, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks, to ensure compliance with project specifications. Montez Group performed sampling and testing of native subgrade and roadway materials in accordance with CTM standards, ensuring all materials met required quality standards.
